The Senior Games in national games association established in 1987. Athletes from all over the united states participate in these games. Spots range from golf, swimming, pickle-ball and judo. The National Senior Games are an Olympic-style event that features athletes over the age of 50. In the year 2015, more than 10,000 athletes competed in the event, that year held in Minnesota, and attracted nearly 35,000 spectators. In 1985, group of seven men and women in St. Louis formed the games organization. In 1987, 2,500 athletes participated. The organization today exists as a non-profit organization dedicated to motivating adults 50 and over to lead a healthy lifestyle through the game’s movement. The games have actually grown to one of the largest multi-sport events in the world.

In Chicago, Illinois, a basketball team of women over 60, named Team Hoopla, practices and competes in the games. So far, they haven’t won any medals yet, but that is not their concern. These women compete to have fun and just the option to. Many, Like Eileen and Rochelle, haven’t had any of this sort of option growing up as young girls. There were no such teams for any girls in the past. Eileen had to actually cause some noise to start an all-girls basketball team at her college in New York. Just having the option to play as a team right now is all they need to have fun and laughter.
